About the Artist

Susan Vaughan

I began sketching portraits as a teenager and continued through college. After graduating, I began to take watercolor classes. I have been painting with oil for about 18 years. My art has moved from mostly representative to abstract, usually on larger boards without frames so the viewer can see the process. I appreciate abstract art as it allows for a multitude of interpretations.

I enjoy producing art as it allows me time to regenerate. Taking time to see my surroundings with a different eye, looking into the shadowy forest for a glimmer of light that brings a tree branch to life as a pure fresh glowing gem. This art moment caught on canvas I hope will persuade the viewer to stop and appreciate this simple but magnificent experience. Using intuition, I attempt to weave balance and harmony into my work, conveying to the viewer a connection that speaks to our shared human need.

Art is about seeing a subject with an open mind and working through a unique process to create a moment in time, a perspective or a feeling for the viewer. It is a recording of humanity and thus including elements of the art process are essential to each piece. Brush marks, parts uncovered or scraped away, layers, drips, raw edges are examples of the artist’s process and add to the history of the piece. They remind the viewer that the artist is on a personal journey in creating each piece.

Futura Light is a much loved font inspired by elements of Bauhaus design. Ideal for headlines, banners, logos & more, it will make your words stand out.
